What is Live-Heal Technology?

Live-heal technology involves bio-mimicking a naturally occurring process to produce bio-cement or limestone.

This bio-cement can be used to repair or heal fine cracks via the production of concrete compatible material, by building microscopic bridges between cracks and pores. This process is also referred to as ‘self-healing’.

What are BioCem REPAIR and BioCem SEAL?

Nature produces its own cement and limestone from living cells or micro-organisms. We see the result of this process in natural structures such as stromatolites and corals.

Conbiocrete has isolated these same micro-organisms in order to harness the bio-cement production process for use in infrastructure repairs, stabilisation and protection.

BioCem REPAIR and BioCem SEAL are the two solutions produced from this technology, designed for a range of application settings.

What is the difference between BioCem SEAL and BioCem REPAIR?

BioCem SEAL is a low viscosity, eco-friendly bio-cement sealant for healing fine cracks and pores, sealing concrete surfaces, or for stabilising foundations and soils.

BioCem REPAIR is a bio-cement rich repair mortar for repairing larger cracks and concrete surface repairs.

What can BioCem REPAIR be used for?

Our repair mortar is designed for structural concrete repairs and protection.

Some possible application purposes are:

  • General patching repairs and surface repairs to concrete

  • Increased reinforcement of concrete infrastructure

  • Highway overlays and repairs

  • Repairs, reinforcement and protection of roadways, dams, parking structures, and bridges.

What can BioCem SEAL be used for?

Our sealant is designed for purposes where concrete or limestone surfaces need to be sealed, or where deep penetration beyond surfaces is required.

Some possible application contexts are:

  • Dust suppression and concrete surface sealing

  • Repair of fine internal and external cracks in concrete and limestone

  • Infrastructure foundation stabilisation (such as roadways)

  • Erodible soils and sand stabilisation (for purposes such as preventing coastal erosion)

  • Corrosion prevention in concrete structures

Concrete is commonly repaired by application of a surface coating, mainly using synthetic polymers. Such sealant materials can be toxic, prone to degradation with age, non-permeable and expensive to produce. Traditional repair products also don’t penetrate fine cracks or pores easily due to their poor viscosity.

Conbiocrete has addressed these common issues by creating solutions that are eco-friendly and natural, resistant of weathering, easily controlled (during application), suitable for application in ambient temperature conditions, long-lasting, and that continue to allow the treated surface to breathe. Their low viscosity means they penetrate fine cracks easily, and best of all, they’re self-healing!
